Housing Crisis Information Visualisation
Data Visualisation Print Design
This project is a data visualisation of the Australian housing crisis, and the struggles first time home buyers are facing. The design features multiple data visualisation representation techniques to communicate the immense journey first time home buyers must overcome on their way to their first home.
This design project was part of a third-year unit called Information Visualisation completed at the University of Canberra. The aim of the project was to create an information visualisation in the form of a static information graphic based on an appropriate data set. The visualisation should present a story, informing viewers about the topic.
The project began by choosing an appropriate data set to visualise, in which I decided to investigate the affordability of housing in Australia. Initial research into this topic revealed it held a vast amount of data, information and insights. The story I wanted to highlight throughout the information graphic was the current struggles facing first time home buyers, in which have never been seen or experienced before.
The static graphic sees the use of three data visualisation representation techniques in the form of Florence Nightingale’s coxcomb chart and a map plotting chart to ensure to data is depicted clear and comprehensible.
